It’s Black Friday and I am sitting by the fire place, having a cup of “Dirty Chai” and loving the quietude! I have now idea why anyone would leave their family holiday table to go camp out in the cold for bargains. Personally, I would rather pay a few dollars more and enjoy the full holiday.
OK–off my soap box.
Yesterday, mom, hubby, and I went out for our Thanksgiving meal. We traveled about an hour away to The Canebrake (which I have posted about before). Lovely, lovely time. And, they even sent us home with three pulled pork sandwiches, homemade tortilla chips, homemade peanut brittle, and an apple. (Like we even needed a supper snack—we were stuffed—but I thought this was a marvelous gesture.)
On the way to the restaurant, we stopped by our local “harbor.” (Yes, believe it or not, Oklahoma does have an ultra-inter-coastal waterway.) What we saw was remarkable. Two replicas of Columbus’ ships, the Nina and the Pinta, had sailed up the Arkansas River.

These are manned by a professional captain but the rest of the crew are volunteers. What a great gig for the carefree, unattached soul. As we toured the ships, we could smell their Thanksgiving dinner being cooked in the galley below. The crews’ next top is sunny Florida. I am sure they will be thankful for that! (As you can see from the pics, it was a cold and gusty day here yesterday. The weathergirl had promised us 70 degree weather for Thanksgiving. Oops!)
As we toured the ships, I could not believe how small they were and that they carried Columbus and his crews across the seas. Unbelievable!
Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend and enjoy the leftovers. Our official Thanksgiving feast is on for tomorrow! I hope I can find enough time to post about our unorthodox meal.
