Well, friends, it’s been a while since I participated in In My Kitchen (hosted by Sherry at Sherry’s Pickings). I’ve had a few things new to the kitchen, I just didn’t post. (Been in kind of a funk lately….)
I’m back with a few new cookbooks, a great recipe and some news about a new kitchen.
First up the cookbooks.
I’m a sucker for used cookbooks, especially those Junior League books. I found a great one at a local used bookstore. One of the reasons it was such a find is that it was jam packed with recipe clippings. There were lots of hand written notes and “Melba’s Swap Shop” columns. (I remember my grandmother collecting these.)
Talk About Good by the Junior League of Lafayette

There’s lot of seafood recipes and good Cajun recipes.
The Art of Escapism by Mandy Lee

This is a painful (yet hilarious) account of Mandy Lee’s survival tactics while living in China. You can read my full review here.
Jubilee by Toni Tipton-Martin

This book was just published. I received an advance copy via Culinary Adventures with Camilla. It’s a great book and I got a keeper of a recipe for peanut soup. Stay tuned for this posting because it is a great recipe (among many in this book).
Both of these newer books would make great holiday gifts! Just sayin….
Now on to the new kitchen!
No, we are not remodeling. We bought a boat.
Yes, the boat has a kitchen.
The boat is a work in progress and there’s a lot of original items still on the boat. (The boat is older than we are.) The appliances are all original copper tone colored jewels. The oven and stove work. The refrigerator, not so much. At one point (probably in the 80s) a microwave was added.

In the main cabin, there are two original chairs and a side table (on the left). The lazy boys on the right are NOT original and have been removed since this picture was taken.
I hope to post updates of our work as we get her ready for spring outings.
IMK is hosted by Sherry’s Pickings.
